Locations
The villages, holdings and sites the region is fought over, and the ones nobody fights over any more.
Ground in this region is valued by what comes out of it. A scrapyard makes ammunition, a waterworks makes everything downstream of clean water possible, and a radio mast makes it possible to know what is coming. The archive records what each site is and who currently has it.
The holdings
-
Held by the Remnants
Iron Haven
The last true bastion of civilisation. Built by the Settlers, held by the Remnants, and now a checkpoint, a tax and a question about who commands it.
-
Contested: ammunition
The Scrap Yard
The only site that makes ammunition rather than merely moving it about, which is why nobody can afford to leave it alone.
-
Contested: water
The Water Works
Clean water was the Settlers' founding principle. It is now the most valuable ground in the region, and a taxable commodity.
-
Working, held by nobody
Pump Station Nine
The part of the Water Works that does the work. Run off a dead supervisor's rota, and saved from the flood by a town that turned out in the dark.
-
Contested: fuel
The Fuel Depot
First among the three things Remnant doctrine names as worth taking. Everything that moves, lifts or generates runs on what comes out of it.
-
Held by the Cŵn
The Radio Tower
The region's intelligence asset, taken by one man who appears to have no use for intelligence. The hills call it Tŵr Tywyll yr Artaith and do not go up.
-
Holder unestablished
The Old Military Base
Where the Remnants were made rather than merely stationed, and no longer theirs. Still called Camp Remnant. Without it, by their own account, they stall.
Neutral ground
-
Operating
Ivy's Mercy
Lantern-lit in the ruins, powered by a generator nobody has seen fuelled. The last neutral ground in the region, and the neutrality is enforced by the house.
-
Abandoned
The Dust Market
The region's trading floor until trade consolidated under Iron Haven. It did not fall. It emptied. One caravan remains.
Beyond the region
-
Inhabited, reached by sea
Low Harbour
A working port across drowned country, kept findable by a coast that lights itself. False lights burn on the cliffs to wreck those who mistake them.
Sites on record
-
Condition unestablished
Rottingham
The trading post that made a banker into the Banker. Known to the archive almost entirely through the name of the man who built it.
-
Location unestablished
Facility 862-B
A pre-Fall installation that existed to work out how broken systems are repaired. Appears on no map held. Its records contain Dr. Borschtovsky's name.
-
Garrison reported, strength unestablished
The Militia Barracks
A Territorial Army centre at Caernarfon, once wired shut by two men and now said to be garrisoned. What it can field is mostly rumour.
Named in the record
The archive holds accounts referring to ground it has not surveyed and maintains no entries for. They are listed here so the names are not lost.
- Bryn Celli Ddu, the Mound in the Dark Grove, and the older stone routes of Anglesey, the Black Priest's ground.
- Dolbadarn and Caernarfon, beneath whose ruins the Cŵn is spoken of after dark.
- Llyn Padarn, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Rhyd Ddu, named in the one contract of his the archive holds in full.
- The Snowdonia forests and the forgotten slate quarries, worked by Reaper Clark.
- The north Welsh mountains, broken farms and skeletal forest walked by Gnasher.
- Farther Shore, and the drowned town on the approach to Low Harbour, named in the ballad and nowhere else.
- Tan-y-Bwlch, where a gun position was dug in above the village, and Bangor, entered by a mechanised infantry in respirators. Both appear in six photographs of a war almost nothing else on file records.
- The Stwlan dam and the hydroelectric station at Ffestiniog, fought over until the station had changed hands twelve times, and Trawsfynydd, which is said to have been struck. All three are named in the account of that battle and nowhere else.
- FOB Llanbedr, formerly RAF Llanbedr, from which a light tank is said to be making for Caernarfon.
Archive notes
- Iron Haven is the only walled settlement in the region and the only one never taken by assault.
- The Dust Market is still marked on every map the archive holds. There is no longer anything there to trade with.
- Two entries have no established location. Both are retained because something on file depends on them.
- The Radio Tower is the only site on file held by an individual rather than a faction, and the only one nobody has attempted to recover.
- The sea came a long way inland and stayed. Three unconnected sources agree on this.
