Rottingham

The trading post that made a banker into the Banker.

Recorded history

Rottingham is where the Banker built his trading post, and where he turned it into the only place in the region where a deal meant anything.

That work predates the Dust Market's period as neutral ground. When the Market became the region's trading floor his desk moved to it, and the name stayed attached to him rather than to the site, which is how the archive comes to hold a location record consisting largely of a surname.

The Financial Authority

An account of the Fall the archive holds names a Rottingham Financial Authority among the institutions of the years before the crisis: a private banking organisation that financed reconstruction projects, military contracts and emergency infrastructure. When the crisis came it was granted temporary powers to coordinate the emergency distribution of supply, and the account records that those powers were never returned.

The archive notes the name because it is the same name. It holds nothing establishing a relationship between that institution, this site and the Banker, and is not in a position to say which of the three took its name from which.

Assessment

The archive records Rottingham as a place because a man is named for it and because he built something there that worked. Beyond that the file is thin.

No current activity is recorded. No party claims it, and no traveller account the archive holds describes passing through it. Whether it was abandoned, absorbed, destroyed, or is simply somewhere nobody has had reason to mention lately cannot be determined from what is on file.
