Ashes of the Wasteland

A post-apocalyptic airsoft event set in a world of fractured settlements, strange science, old loyalties, and things best left buried.

The world did not end all at once

It cracked.

First the power grids failed. Then the water stopped running. The skies burned for three days after the strikes, and when the dust finally settled, nothing worked the way it used to. Governments fell silent. Borders meant nothing. Cities emptied or turned into graves.

Those who survived learned one truth quickly: bullets became currency, water became power, scrap became life.

This region, once farmland, industrial yards and small villages, escaped total destruction. That made it valuable. Too valuable to stay peaceful.

Where things stand

Three forces rose from the ashes, and the war between them is over.

The Settlers claimed victory on the battlefield at a cost they did not survive. Iron Haven passed to the Remnants regardless, and the last true bastion of civilisation is now a checkpoint, a tax and a question nobody can answer about who actually commands it. The Scavengers were finished by the peace that followed.

Outside the walls, the survivors of both destroyed factions have united under a new name: the Scattered. They fight not for victory but for survival. As a sickness moves through the region and word spreads of those who return changed, survival is no longer a modest ambition.

Trade is controlled. Resources are scarce. Entire communities have vanished.

The archive

This site is a field archive assembled after the collapse. It holds what can be established, notes what cannot, and keeps closed records alongside open ones.

It is not complete and does not claim to be. What is here is what survived and could be gathered: papers carried out of buildings that were being emptied anyway, accounts given by people with reasons of their own, songs written down from singing, photographs nobody got round to throwing away. Much of the region appears nowhere in it, because nothing from that part of the region ever reached the archive.

Where sources disagree, both are kept. Where a date cannot be made to work, it is left not working. Several records here sit awkwardly against one another and some sit awkwardly against themselves; those are not oversights awaiting correction, and the archive has stopped expecting to resolve them. It records that a difficulty exists, and goes no further than the evidence allows.

  • Accounts of the Fall: how the world ended, according to sources that do not agree it ended once.
  • Factions: the forces still in the field, and the two that were destroyed.
  • People: traders, operators, wanderers and other figures on file.
  • Locations: the villages, holdings and sites that the region is fought over.
  • Artefacts: songs, photographs, documents and propaganda the Wasteland produced about itself.
