Reaper Clark

Sergeant. Enforcer. A death omen with a rifle.

Reaper Clark

Recorded history

In the mist-shrouded woodlands of north Wales, where the jagged Snowdonia peaks give way to tangled forest and forgotten slate quarries, Reaper Clark works the undergrowth.

He was Sergeant Clark of a Welsh Territorial unit before the Collapse, a fact he does not advertise and has never denied. What he became afterwards is deliberate. The skull mask is scavenged ballistic polymer, bone-white, etched with cracks that were put there on purpose. It is meant to call up the old Celtic death omens that these fog-drenched woods have always carried, and it works, which says as much about the region's state of mind as it does about the mask.

Weathered by relentless rain and wind, it blends into a hooded cloak of patched surplus until the whole silhouette stops reading as a man. Travellers who have seen him at distance in the bracken frequently report having seen something else.

Method

He carries a rugged M4 pulled from old MOD stockpiles and a vest loaded with ammunition and tools. A battered flask of cheap vodka rides in the vest alongside them, his own dark ritual for steeling nerves on cold, silent nights, and the only habit anyone has been able to reliably attribute to him.

Clark does not hold ground and does not join anything. He moves between survivor bands in the deep forest, trading lethal precision in ambush for supplies and intel, and he is specific about targets: raiders, chiefly. People who prey on the settlements at the forest edge tend to encounter him once.

He is driven, by every account that exists, by the ghosts of comrades who did not come through, and by the vodka, which he would probably concede.

Assessment

The archive files Clark as an enforcer rather than a mercenary, because the distinction appears to matter to him. He takes payment, but he does not take contracts indiscriminately, and no record exists of his having worked against a settlement.

Whether that is principle or preference is unestablished. The practical effect is the same: in the deep forest, raiding is a materially more dangerous profession than it is anywhere else in the region.
